Wayfinder Systems provided smartphone navigation for millions of users with an end-to-end solution including both a highly scalable LBS platform running on clusters of Linux servers as well as clients running on the then common smartphone platforms. When the company was closed down by the owner Vodafone they provided permission and support to release the solution as open source software.
